This role is an Authorised Officer that supports the administration of the Health (Fluoridation) Act 1973, the Safe Drinking Water Act 2003, relevant sections of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008. This role is responsible for providing advice and developing guidance to minimise risks to public health from hazards in water with a specific focus on recreational water, aquatic facilities and private water supplies. This role will also support the Victorian fluoridation program. A key focus of this role is to support the Water Unit's communication and education strategies that aim to build capacity in the understanding and management of water quality risks.

**Accountabilities**:
- Contribute to the development and provision of advice and sound policy recommendations to senior management and government.
- Undertake research and contribute to the development of a range of policy and initiatives within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
- Assist the monitoring and reporting on high priority issues, risks and trends and assist to prepare and present comprehensive reports, ministerial briefs, cabinet and agency submissions on complex issues.
- Support effective working relationships and the flow of information across the department and with key external stakeholders.
- Develop and implement department operational policies in relation to relevant sections of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.
- Prepare reports, presentations, briefings and correspondence about public health risk management, and chemical and microbial hazards in water using clear, concise and grammatically correct language.
- Respond to and investigate water quality incidents or issues, with a focus on providing technical assessment of risks to private drinking water supplies, recreational waters and aquatic facilities, and make recommendations to protect public health.
- Conduct risk assessments, technical appraisals and reviews to contribute to policy, guidance, training packages to promote and education stakeholders on managing risk.
- Develops and implements the Water Unit's public communication materials and conveys specialist concepts and policies to the public through both written and verbal communication.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
