**About the ABP Maker Spaces**
The Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning (ABP) Maker Spaces comprise a range of facilities providing state-of-the-art interdisciplinary spaces for making with technology aiming to create a hands-on and inspiring environment encouraging experimentation with technology, materials, and processes of making.
A key Maker Space facility is the Digital Fabrication Lab (Fab Lab), which operates a range of digital fabrication equipment that is accessible via a bureau service, where staff operate machinery and process fabrication jobs on behalf of students.
**About the Role**
The Lead Technician, under the guidance of the Digital Fabrication Lab Coordinator, is primarily responsible for monitoring adherence of Technicians and Student Interns to the labs processes and procedures including overseeing the operation of fabrication equipment, the delivery of consultations to students with fabrication queries, and assisting the Maker Spaces Management Team with the delivery of core services as required.
Responsibilities include:
- Under broad direction from the Digital Fabrication Coordinator, monitor Digital Fabrication Lab staff operating machines and equipment effectively and efficiently as part of bureau fabrication service to ensure all jobs adhere to quality standards. Operate fabrication machines and complete fault investigation and rectification as required.
- Contribute to an open, inclusive, and welcoming University environment, whilst managing the delivery of core services to achieve optimal outcomes for all users of the Maker Spaces. Monitor return of fabrication jobs to customers ensuring achievement of the required quality standards and completion time goals.
- Monitor and deliver support to students with regard to solving digital fabrication problems of a technical nature through the Consultation service.
- Monitor staff practice of established OHS and safety protocols, supervise student to adhere to established safety protocols, and continually improve safety practices.
We are looking for a passionate maker with demonstrated experience operating digital fabrication equipment to oversee the day-to-day operations of the MSD Fab Lab. If you want to use your skills with advanced manufacturing technology to mentor students and staff we want to hear from you
**About You**
You will be a passionate and experienced maker with highly-developed digital fabrication skills. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to effectively engage a diverse group of stakeholders and deliver an exceptional standard of service. You are a confident leader with prior experience supervising junior staff and inexperienced users to safely use equipment.
You will also have:
- A relevant qualification with experience in digital and analogue fabrication, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated experience working with CNC routers, laser cutters, 3D printers and/or other digital prototyping output devices.
