Kurbingui Youth & Family Development is a not-for-profit Aboriginal community-controlled organisation.

Established in 2001, we have continued to grow in the number of services delivered to the community in areas such as employment and training, family support, domestic and family violence, alcohol and substance abuse, cultural education and engagement, support targeting successful educational outcomes for families and children and young people from preschool to tertiary, recreation and sports, early years, youth, women and men, cultural group activities, social, emotional well-being - suicide prevention, crisis response and treatment and health and nutrition.

**The Numula Family Safety Program**

The purpose of the Numula Family Safety Program is to implement safety strategies and effective interventions that address domestic and family violence through the provision of a culturally safe educational and healing environment. The overall aim of the program is to work with men and women and their families to increase the safety, health and well-being for all in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and broader community members. The name Numula is from “Jaggera” language meaning “Embrace”.

**The Role**

The Coordinator promotes and develops the Numula Family Safety Program through the provision of support through referrals, information and advice to assist children, young people, individuals and families who are impacted by domestic and family violence.

The Coordinator provides a therapeutic learning environment through the facilitation of group training and workshops that addresses domestic and family violence aimed to develop personal skills, knowledge and resources that reduce risk and increase safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experiencing and or perpetrating domestic and family violence.

**To be successful in the role, you will have**:

- Experience working within the community service sector, specifically in the field of family and domestic violence.
- Demonstrated experience in providing coordinated responses to children, young people and families impacted by family and domestic violence.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience of the issues and barriers faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals in contemporary society.
- Knowledge, experience and ability to align work practice with state and federal legislation, cultural protocols, standards and guidelines.
- Demonstrated capacity to implement collaborative practice with clients, co-workers, partnership agencies, government and non-government services.
- Knowledge and understanding of strength-based, family-focused and child-centred frameworks.
- Strong commitment to providing high-quality service provision to clients, co-workers, partnership stakeholders and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Ability to meet performance outcomes as reasonably directed by the organisation and the funding body.
- Effective time management, ability to prioritise and complete tasks.
- Capacity to effectively work independently and as part of the broader organisational teams.
- Effective communication skills - written, verbal and interpersonal; including report-writing.
- First Aid and CPR (or ability to obtain)
- Current Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a ‘Positive Notice’ Blue card
- Willingness to undergo a Criminal History Check

**Key Selection Criteria**:

- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and their cultures, and a general understanding of the issues that are affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary Australian society.
- Highly developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, consultation, negotiation and liaison skills (especially in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities) including the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated experience in working effectively with families, children and external sources/agencies, specifically in the field of family and domestic violence. This will include case management as well as facilitating and/or coordinating activities such as group work (eg. women’s group) and workshops to support clients around related issues pertaining to domestic and family violence.
