During Senate sitting periods, Senate Estimates hearings and other ceremonial events, the Senate Attendant provides support services in the Senate chamber and Senate committee rooms for the President, senators and the Clerks at the Table. Their duties include setting up the Senate chamber on sitting days, setting up Senate committee rooms on estimates days, delivering and distributing parliamentary papers, providing messenger support to senators in the Senate chamber and performing ceremonial duties when the Senate is in operation. The occupant of this position also provides messenger services outside the Senate chamber, generally for the Clerk Assistant (Procedure).
The Senate Attendant performs their duties in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols, to a high-standard and in a timely and professional manner.
This position requires the lifting and moving of large and heavy items in a safe manner.
This is a casual position requiring the occupant to be available to work during Senate sitting weeks and at other times, as required, such as during Senate Estimates hearings. The occupant of this position must be willing to work overtime as required.
A 25% loading will be paid in lieu of all leave entitlements, except Long Service Leave. This loading will be paid for all duties performed, excluding overtime.
