**The opportunity**:
The Royal Children’s Hospital Gender Service (RCHGS) provides care to trans and gender diverse youth - including psychological and hormonal treatments - and is one of the largest multidisciplinary clinics of its kind in the world. However, there is currently limited research data to inform clinical practice in this emerging field. The Transgender Health research program’s primary objective is to produce high-quality research evidence related to child and adolescent transgender health, and by doing so, aims to ultimately improve the healthcare, wellbeing and overall outcomes of trans children and adolescents, and their families. One of the main studies within the Transgender Health research program is Trans20. Trans20 is a longitudinal cohort study designed to describe the biopsychosocial outcomes for young transgender individuals receiving psychosocial support and hormonal interventions. Data collection primarily involves the administration of online questionnaires, with some assessments also conducted by RCHGS clinicians. Patients who leave the service are invited to continue undertaking questionnaires every two years.
We are seeking to recruit Junior Biostatistician (Masters level) to join the Transgender Health research team. The individual appointed to this position will be expected to clean Trans20 data and contribute statistical and data processing skills to a portfolio of research studies within the work program of Transgender Health. This will involve direct contributions to the analysis and reporting of observational studies and/or randomised trials, including contributing to scientific publications, and working closely with members of the team. The appointee may also be asked to contribute to improving the skills of project assistants, medical officers, and research students by assisting in data processing and analysis. The position will report to a Senior Transgender Health Research Officer and be co-supervised by a Senior Statistician from the Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit (CEBU).
**Your responsibilities include**:
Leading the data processing of Trans20 study
Cleaning Trans20 study data enabling use for research
Reviewing and updating the data dictionary and the modules for measures used in the Trans20 study for patient-, parent
- and clinician-reported questionnaires
Conducting statistical analysis, prepare tabular and graphical presentation and contribute to research outputs under supervision
Contributing to preparing clinic reports for individual patients based on the patient-, parent
- and clinician-reported questionnaires
**About you**:
A degree, preferably at Masters level or higher, in applied statistics or biostatistics or closely related field
Excellent statistical computing skills, especially familiarity with the Stata statistical package (or demonstrable capacity to develop this quickly)
Experience in the use of statistical methods in clinical and health research
(Desirable) Experience in the coordination and management of data collection and data analysis activities for research studies
(Desirable) Evidence of involvement in peer reviewed research publications
