Hatch is seeking a Design Manager for HVDC Converter Stations to join our growing Energy practice in Australia. The broader Energy team brings together experts in a variety of disciplines ranging from renewables, eGrid, nuclear, oil & gas and other related areas to inspire positive change in cities and communities around the world.

The Energy team at Hatch is a long-established group and has grown organically at a successful rate globally for the past several years. The next phase of growth will be further expansion as we establish a broader presence across Australia and the surrounding regions. This exciting role will play a key role in our regional Energy business and join a strong global leadership team that is one of the main pillars of Hatch’s service offerings.

Reporting to the Regional Director of eGRID, this role will be based out of Melbourne and be responsible for contributing to the growth of the group in coordination with colleagues around the broader global Hatch platform. The Design Manager HVDC Converter Stations will provide leadership in maintaining and further developing our design work for converter stations, including responsibility for business development, team leadership and development, thought leadership and research, client engagement, technical oversight of deliverables and project financial performance.

**Responsibilities**:

- Design scope management to ensure alignment of the proposed design with the overall project objectives
- Coordination with the discipline lead engineers and sub-consultants to ensure on-scope, on-time and on-budget delivery of engineering design, and timely forecasting and reporting of progress and deviations
- Coordinating engineering input into the design reports and progress reporting
- Management of the engineering change control processes (in conjunction the discipline lead engineers)
- Coordination of the engineering design work between disciplines, sub-consultants and other stakeholders
- Ensuring discipline leads manage quality and compliance of the design and engineering produced by their discipline
- Championing the Safety in Design process to ensure full engagement by the engineering team
- Facilitate the Value Optimisation processes to ensure focus by the engineering team on the overall project objectives and requirements
- Coordination and management of any listed general design deliverables (e.g. multi-discipline design reports, SID registers, etc)
- Supporting discipline resource management including coordination with Hatch regional discipline leads and engineering management to ensure resources are suitable and available as required for the project

**Qualifications**:

- Design/Engineering manager skillset, HVDC/substation preferred
- Strong coordination skills
- High Voltage Substation / Transmission experience
- Australian (Victorian / Tasmanian) transmission market experience highly desirable
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills in complex and changing environments
