
Disability Support Worker

The Disability Support Worker plays a crucial role in providing assistance and care to individuals with disabilities, enabling them to live fulfilling and independent lives. Reporting to managers and directors within the organisation, the Disability Support Worker operates within a team environment to ensure the holistic well-being and quality of life for those under their care.
Duties and responsbilities:
**Personal Care Assistance**
- **Hygiene and Grooming**: Assisting clients with daily personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- **Mobility Support**: Helping clients with mobility, including the use of wheelchairs, walkers, and other aids.
- **Medication Management**: Assisting with the administration of medication, ensuring clients take their prescribed medications at the correct times.
**Daily Living Support**
- **Meal Preparation**: Preparing and assisting with meals, ensuring dietary needs and preferences are met.
- **Household Tasks**: Assisting with household chores such as cleaning, laundry, and shopping.
- **Transportation**: Providing transportation to appointments, social activities, and community events.
**3. Social and Community Participation**
- **Social Engagement**: Encouraging and facilitating social interactions and community participation.
- **Activity Planning**: Organising and participating in recreational activities that align with the client’s interests and abilities.
- **Skill Development**: Supporting clients in developing new skills and maintaining existing ones to promote independence.
**4. Health and Well-being Support**
- **Monitoring Health**: Observing and reporting any changes in the client’s physical or mental health to appropriate healthcare professionals.
- **Exercise and Therapy**: Assisting with prescribed physical therapy exercises and encouraging regular physical activity.
- **Emotional Support**: Providing emotional support and companionship, helping clients to maintain a positive outlook.
**5. Administrative Duties**
- **Documentation**: Maintaining accurate records of care provided, including client progress notes, incident reports, and communication notes.
- **NDIS Compliance**: Ensuring all activities comply with NDIS regulations and guidelines.
- **Care Plans**: Developing, implementing, and reviewing individual care plans in collaboration with clients and other professionals.
**6. Communication and Advocacy**
- **Client Advocacy**: Advocating for the client’s needs and preferences in various settings, including healthcare and community services.
- **Family and Team Communication**: Maintaining clear and open communication with family members, healthcare providers, and other support team members.
- **Conflict Resolution**: Addressing any conflicts or issues that arise in a professional and constructive manner.
**7. Professional Development**
- **Training**: Participating in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated on best practices and regulatory requirements.
- **Feedback and Improvement**: Seeking and utilising feedback to improve the quality of care provided.
**Job Type**: Casual
Pay: $30.00 - $54.59 per hour
Expected hours: 4 - 20 per week
Schedule:
- Afternoon shift
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Fixed shift
- Morning shift
- Public holidays
- Weekend availability
Licence/Certification:
- First Aid Certification (preferred)
- Working with Children Check (required)
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (required)
- National Police Certificate (preferred)
- Driver Licence (required)
