**The Role**
The Manager, Work Health and Safety (WHS) plays a key role in delivering the Memorial’s work, health and safety and early intervention and injury management program. The role operates under broad direction exercising a significant degree of independence to resolve WHS issues and delivery quality outcomes.
The role is committed to partnering with business, cultivating a safety risk management culture and working independently and flexibly. This involves working with all levels of the organisation including the Corporate and Senior Management Groups, being pro-active and solution focussed, and coaching and influencing to enable safety to be integrated in core business operations. The role is responsible for managing and leading a small team and is also required to contribute to the work of the broader HR Team.
**Core Responsibilities**
- Lead the development, implementation and review of the Memorial’s work, health and safety strategic priorities including the work, health and safety management system and rehabilitation management system frameworks to ensure legislative and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and maintain key strategic relationships with stakeholders including Council, Executives, Senior Management and Supervisors to consistently implement the Memorial’s WHS objectives across all Branches.
- Develop and monitor WHS improvement programs to continually improve the effectiveness of WHS and injury management systems and ensure the achievement of performance objectives.
- Influence, negotiate and provide trusted advice on WHS operations across a range of stakeholders to ensure sustained and continual improvement in WHS and injury management.
- Consider the diverse range of stakeholder needs, accounting for the range of operational contexts in which the Memorial and its people operate, and manage this with sensitivity and appropriate care.
- Develop and implement early intervention programs, and case management to assist rehabilitation and return to work, in collaboration with Managers, Comcare, and external providers and monitor, evaluate and report on performance quarterly.
- Manage the reporting and investigation of incidents including leading serious incident investigation with sections to ensure appropriate analysis and effective mitigation/prevention of re occurrence.
- Lead whole of Memorial risk management activities.
- Monitor and analyse WHS data to identify trends, emerging issues and improvement opportunities and report on WHS performance on a regular basis.
- Prepare complex and/or sensitive correspondence, corporate documents, reports, submissions, proposal papers and notes.
- Lead, coach and manage the WHS Team to produce quality outcomes.
- Manage the WHS budget and procurement activities in accordance with the Commonwealth finance and procurement processes.
- Represent the section and Memorial to internal and external stakeholders including Comcare and other safety regulators, the Small Agencies Forum and the Cultural Institutions WHS Network.
