Purpose
The purpose of the job is to lead and develop public health nutrition policy in relation to the operations of the Department of Health. This will entail the co-ordination and development of public health nutrition strategic direction and activity across the department and government, as well as supporting partnerships across government, with public health organisations, researchers, NGOs and communities. In this role you provide advice and leadership in the development of policy, programs and nutrition capacity building to promote health. You will also be responsible for raising the public profile of healthy eating and nutrition in Victoria and be expected to speak in public and with authority on nutrition issues.
Accountabilities

**Operating at Value Range 1, you will**:

- Effectively manage and provide leadership on the review, development, formulation and implementation of strategic state level public nutrition health policy initiatives by:

- leading and supporting project teams to achieve their potential while maximising their contribution to achieve their goals and outcomes
- modelling behaviours integral to good people management and departmental values
- if relevant, managing and monitoring specific improvement objectives in annual improvement plans relating to the area of responsibility
- Provide authoritative and strategic advice to the departmental executive and key stakeholders relating to public nutrition health policy
- Lead and oversee complex research projects to identify, plan and develop integrated policy strategies, consultative processes and service delivery models related to public nutrition health policy
- Build comprehensive business cases to achieve the realisation of government public nutrition health policy initiatives
- Pro-actively build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders and develop options to facilitate a partnership approach to working with industry
- Prepare and present detailed, comprehensive reports, Ministerial briefs, Cabinet and agency committee submissions on complex policy issues
- Represent the department's views, on a State and national level, at industry forums and on inter-agency committees, taskforces, and government and non-government bodies
- Plan, develop and establish strategic directions for the successful management and delivery of public health nutrition policy/program initiatives
- Prepare and present high quality comprehensive reports, Ministerial briefs, Cabinet and agency committee submissions on complex policy and operational issues, and prepare regular and ad hoc reports and correspondence
- Cooperate with managers in consultative processes that improve health and safety by using the relevant tools and systems, such as procedures, guidelines and policies.
