Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer is a key position in establishing trust and building relationships between Aboriginal clients and communities across the district. The successful incumbent will work collaboratively with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary health care teams in providing flexible, holistic, and culturally sensitive health services to the Aboriginal Community who attend the service/facility.
Your role will see you as an advocate for Aboriginal people and their families on issues relating to their health concerns and link them to appropriate services for both Inpatient and Outpatient units within the Women & Children's Health division. In this position, you will support and inform Aboriginal Families to ensure an understanding of clinical interventions and service delivery to assist them in making an informed decision in relation to healthcare. The position also aims to communicate with and facilitate access to other government and non-government support and services.

**What you will bring to the role**:
- This is designed female Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander position. Applicants for this position must be Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III Health qualification in area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the health issues and key polices that impact on Aboriginal Community across NBMLHD. Including grief and loss, intergenerational trauma, child protection, domestic violence, substance abuse and the burden of chronic illness.
- Demonstrate ability to liaise, proactively engage and work collaboratively with vulnerable communities and relevant agencies in ensuring culturally responsive services
- Possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to identify and implement health promotion activities within a secure environment for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Patients
- Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel
