Applications are invited for the TS1 trainee (provisional trainee) in Emergency Department. The Provisional Trainee will be required to participate in a 24/7 roster and may be rostered to day, evening and night shifts across a seven day roster.They are responsible for assessment and management of patient’s presenting to the Emergency Department; communication of assessment and management decisions to other staff involved in the patient’s care; communication with the patient / family regarding the patient’s condition and management plans; maintenance of accurate and relevant patient documentation; coordination of diagnostic tests and consultations; arrangement of patient discharge process and liaison with GP’s and other community care services to ensure the provision of optimal patient care to patients presenting to St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Work in the Emergency Department is at times demanding and difficult. Patients come from all levels of society and present a wide spectrum of both medical and social problems. All actions and comments must be made with this in mind. All patients should be treated with dignity and respect. Because the Emergency Department is often crowded and busy, staff should be mindful that they need to protect patients’ privacy and confidentiality at all times. Despite these demands, work in the Emergency Department can be extremely fulfilling on a personal and a professional level. The courtesy and cooperation of all staff are essential to maintain the proper functioning of the Emergency Department.

**What you'll be doing**

St Vincent’s Hospital Emergency Department is a busy department treating approximately 51,000 patients each year. About 46% are admitted to the Hospital from the Emergency Department each day, a figure that represents some 50% of all hospital admissions. The hospital is a trauma centre and has ECMO capabilities. The department is accredited for the maximum ED training time (level TS4).

Work in the Emergency Department is at times demanding and difficult. Patients come from all levels of society and present a wide spectrum and complexity of both medical and social problems. Because the Emergency Department is often crowded and busy, staff should be mindful that they need to protect patients’ privacy and confidentiality at all times. Despite these demands, work in the Emergency Department can be extremely fulfilling on a personal and a professional level. Our department has a FLEXI Clinic which has proven to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

All services with the exception of Paediatrics and Obstetrics are provided at St. Vincent’s Hospital. In the event that paediatric / obstetric patients self-present to St. Vincent’s Emergency, they are stabilised and transferred by ambulance, if required, to the nearest Hospital abl
