An exciting opportunity exists to join the Emergency Department at Wollongong Hospital.

Where you'll be working

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven's major referral and teaching hospital with over 500 beds. It offers a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient, and community-based services. Wollongong is located an hour south of Sydney, bordered by the Royal National Park, Lake Illawarra, the Tasman Sea, and the Illawarra Escarpment. The Shoalhaven area is rapidly growing, with over 5,000 new residents annually, featuring beaches, rainforests, and tourist towns like Berry. Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy rural hospital with over 1,000 staff, offering emergency care, medical, surgical, orthopaedic, and specialized services, currently undergoing a $438 million redevelopment.

Shellharbour Hospital is a 197-bed facility on the NSW South Coast, providing inpatient, outpatient, and community services, including emergency, surgical, mental health, and regional cancer care, with a new hospital development underway.

ISLHD offers the Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) Program, an alternative pathway for IMGs to AMC Part 2 Clinical Exam. Applicants must be current employees with a contract covering the program duration, and must be in a rotational RMO or Emergency Department position.

What You'll Be Doing

Providing emergency medical care under supervision, with possible work at Wollongong, Shellharbour, or Shoalhaven hospitals. The position is suitable for junior doctors registered with ACEM Stage 1 or those who have recently applied/registered. The role involves a seven-day roster including evenings and nights.

Selection Criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent, registered or eligible with the Medical Board of Australia
  • At least two years postgraduate experience
  • Involved in or applied for specialist training with ACEM, with evidence required
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
  • High-level communication skills
  • Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Good organizational and time management skills
