**Role Purpose**

We are seeking program assistants with strong qualities of leadership who, with time, will be able to step up into a facilitator role. Social Program Assistants hold responsibility for supporting the strengths-based delivery of Social Programs by assisting facilitators with program preparation, participant engagement, and routine tasks. This entry-level role is designed to provide on-the-job learning and contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for autistic participants.

**Desirable Skills and Experience**

- Neuro-affirming knowledge and understanding of autism
- Proven ability to implement strength-based practice in social programs
- Proven ability to implement social model of disability in social programs
- Demonstrates ability to work under limited supervision and shows initiative when required
- Works well in a team environment and empowers fellow team members to engage with participants creating an inclusive environment for all.

**Individual Core Accountabilities**

**Program Assistance**

- Assist with setting up and packing down program materials and spaces, including cleaning.
- Welcome participants and support their comfort and inclusion in activities.
- Support the facilitator during individual and group activities (e.g. helping with transitions, modelling positive behaviour, encouraging engagement).
- Complete other routine tasks such as assisting in general program activities as arranged by the Facilitator, food preparation and providing 1:1 participant support.

**Participant Support**

- Follow individual support strategies and routines as directed, building rapport with and among participants.
- Encourage participants to interact with one another and participate in activities.
- Demonstrate patience and care in all participant interactions, following participant needs assessments and other support plans.
- Contribute to a safe, respectful and neurodiversity-affirming environment

**Monitoring and Reporting**

- Observe and report on participant engagement and escalate any concerns to the Facilitator.
- Support the Facilitator in the undertaking of basic administrative tasks including the recording of Case Notes for the session as delegated.

**Team Collaboration**

- Attend team briefings, debriefings, and training as required.
- Work respectfully with participants, their families and other team members.
- Receive instruction, guidance and feedback from Program Facilitator to support familiarisation with Spectrum Space Social Programs.

**Safety & Wellbeing**

- Support participants to regulate and promote well-being and dignity.
- Follow Facilitator direction in the event a participant becomes dysregulated (e.g. working with the participant 1:1 to support their regulation or supporting the other participants present).
- Follow internal risk management policies and procedures, while also aligning with current best practice guidelines within the sector as well as the NDIS Code of Conduct and National Principles for Child Safety.
