**The Opportunity**

The Faculty of Engineering has a continuing (permanent) opportunity for a **Faculty Workshop and Fabrication Services Manager**. This is an essential role to lead both the strategic and operational aspects of workshop services within the Faculty, to ensure that workshop operations align with the Faculty’s academic objectives while being commercially viable and compliant with health and safety regulations. In this role you will empower the capabilities of others whist fostering a future-focussed approach to better utilise existing resources, streamline operations, and enhance overall support and efficiency.

This role reports to the Academic Workshop Director and requires regular collaboration with technical staff across schools that have workshop fabrication capabilities. As throughput increases, you will oversee Design Fabrication consultants, workshop technical officers, and casual staff, ensuring a well-coordinated, efficient, and responsive workshop environment that meets the needs of both the Faculty and other Research Centres.

**Skills and Experience**
- Relevant tertiary qualification with extensive relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Extensive experience working with a variety of manufacturing equipment and materials to develop prototypes for teaching and research.
- Proven leadership in an academic environment, ideally in workshop or lab management.
- Expertise in the current equipment and software available to support the manufacturing of prototypes both at UNSW and within industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the academic and research dimensions in engineering education.
- Proven strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing, coaching and developing staff.
- A strong record in budget control and financial strategy.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Strong demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team and with a range of people at different levels within an organisation, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
