The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care.Our General Services team in Nepean Hospital is seeking to engage a Waste Management Leading Hand. The position will effectively manage all waste-related activities, providing effective operational support within the waste team.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and supervision of the waste department and actively participate in all aspects of work. In this role, you will provide effective waste collection services in clinical and non-clinical areas within the Nepean Campus. In addition, you will ensure appropriate waste management of general, domestic, garden, building (not redevelopment waste), and grease traps under industry guidelines and legislation.As the Waste Management Leading Hand, you will assist to identify and implement strategies to reduce carbon footprint and divert waste away from landfills. Following infection control policies and procedures, the role will ensure provision of a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety for patients, clients, staff, and visitors within the Nepean facility.

- Demonstrated experience and ability to perform physically demanding tasks within a hospital environment. Previous experience working in a health care facility or organisation undertaking waste removal.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to read, write, and understand essential documentation including safe work practices, infection control policy, and waste management procedures
- Demonstrated knowledge of EEO, WH&S, Waste management, and handling policy and procedures and the ability to assist with manual handling objectives and training.
- Demonstrated history of managing a team and promoting a harmonious and positive working environment.
- Ability to show initiative, use sound judgment, and work collaboratively as part of a team to prioritise tasks while under sustained pressure maintaining accuracy and attention to detail while managing a high workload. Have basic computer skills and the ability to collect statistical data and format into reports.
- Knowledge & compliance with Work Health & Safety Act. Willingness to protect the health and safety standards
- Availability and capacity to participate in a 24 hour/ seven-day rotating roster which includes working all shifts, all days of the week including public holidays, able to work reasonable overtime.
- Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purposes travel.
