Research Assistant

Based in the UniSA STEM Unit at the Mawson Lakes campus
- Full-time, 12 month fixed term contract
- Commencement Range: $74,385 (Level ARA) $93,165 (Level ARAS) per annum (plus 17% superannuation)

**About the Role**

The Research Assistant/Research Associate will contribute to the research efforts of UniSA STEM, in particular they will undertake research on the project titled “Multi-Modal Information Fusion at the Tactical Edge” funded via a Defence Science Partnering (DSP) Research Agreement.

**Core Responsibilities**

Level ARA
- Undertake research under routine supervision to achieve project grant outcomes; i.e., to investigate techniques to automatically extract, contextualise and fuse unstructured tactical information from multiple sensors, including imagery and natural language
- Design and perform a range of experiments including appropriate controls to achieve planned research outcomes
- Assist in preparing or contributing to the preparation of refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers arising from the research
- Under direction from the project lead, provide advice to post graduate students in the appointee’s area of expertise
- Undertake administrative duties associated with relevant research projects, as required from time to time

Level ARAS
- Undertake research under limited supervision to achieve project grant outcomes; i.e., to investigate techniques to automatically extract, contextualise and fuse unstructured tactical information from multiple sensors, including imagery and natural language
- Design and perform a range of experiments including appropriate controls to achieve planned research outcomes
- Prepare or contribute to the preparation of refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers arising from the research
- Provide advice to post graduate students in the appointee’s area of expertise.
- Undertake administrative duties associated with relevant research projects, as required from time to time

**Essential Skills and Experience**

Level ARA
- A bachelor degree in a Computer Science, Software Engineering or other area relevant to the research
- Evidence of high-quality research outputs in the fields of AI, Deep Learning, Information Fusion and Symbolic Reasoning Methods, commensurate with the length of research career, published and presented in appropriate forums
- Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated through written work such as research reports, research publications and educational materials, and through effective liaison with external partners, colleagues and students
- Demonstrated skills and experience in the fields of Machine Learning models and AI tasks
- Ability to plan and execute testing and research with stakeholders

Level ARAS
- A doctorate in a Computer Science, Software Engineering or other area relevant to the research
- Evidence of high quality research output commensurate with the length of research career, which is published and presented in appropriate forums
