**About the team**:
The Natural Toxins section at Cawthron Labs comprises the Biotoxin and Microalgae Laboratories. The Biotoxin Laboratory specialises in testing seafood for marine biotoxins and freshwater for cyanotoxins, primarily using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). It is internationally recognised for its expertise in marine biotoxin identification and testing. The Microalgae Laboratory analyses marine and freshwater samples to identify algae species of interest to regulatory agencies, commercial clients, regional councils, and water supply authorities. Together, our services help ensure the safety of seafood and drinking water, protect human health and safeguard New Zealand’s seafood industry from economic and reputational risks.
**About you**:
- Detail-focused, organised, and confident working with lab equipment like pipettes, balances, and microscopes.
- Familiar with laboratory best practices and quality systems - experience in an IANZ 17025-accredited lab is a bonus.
- Comfortable performing both routine and complex tasks, with a commitment to accuracy and safety.
- A strong communicator who works well in a team.
- You are keen to learn and develop.
