**The Opportunity**
As a commercial officer, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering critical assets that strengthen national defense capabilities. Your work directly contributes to projects of national and international importance. The defense sector is ever evolving, requiring innovative solutions to unique challenges. You’ll develop resilience and adaptability, which are highly valued skills in any industry. You will manage high-value, multifaceted contracts involving government clients, international stakeholders, and subcontractors. This offers a chance to refine your skills in negotiation, risk management, and compliance with defense regulations.
Defense shipbuilding programs involve state-of-the-art technology and innovation. You'll collaborate with engineers, designers, and technologists, gaining insights into advanced maritime systems. Working on large-scale, high-profile programs provides excellent experience for career growth. It positions you as an expert in commercial operations within the defense sector.
**What’s involved**
- Provide contractual and commercial advice for Patrol Boat projects, including interpreting and administering contract documents and drafting/responding to contractual correspondence.
- Maintain and update key project registers, including preparing and submitting Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Contract Change Proposals (CCPs), invoices, and other reports or claims.
- Attend contract meetings, actively participate, and record accurate and comprehensive minutes.
- Manage contract billing requirements, ensuring compliance with financial processes and timelines.
- Assist Program and Project Managers with budgeting, forecasting, and preparing costing proposals to support project objectives.
- Liaise directly with Program and Project Managers to provide commercial and contractual support.
**You’ll need**
**_ Essential_**
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Ability to gain Baseline Security Clearance (Australian Citizen)
- Bachelor’s degree (commerce / business, commercial law, Finance)
- Commercial and Contract documents management
- Strong business acumen.
- Effective Communication Skills
- Ability to influence stakeholders
- Attention to detail
**_ Desirable_**
- Exposure to basic financial modelling for cost building and cost monitoring
- Exposure to contract or project management, experience with project variation claims
- Demonstrated understanding of the ASDEFCON Suite of Contracts
