The position is pretty straight forward; BAU leadership of a medium sized payroll team, offering a mentorship, guidance and payroll expertise and collaborating closely with the Payroll Manager and other Senior Leaders across the business.

**ROLE SCOPE INCLUDES**:
- The Payroll team is part of Finance, Procurement & Tax which in addition to payroll, is responsible for financial control, planning & analysis, management performance reporting, tax advisory and tax compliance and procurement
- The Payroll team is responsible for the management of the end to end payrolls, which are split between one fortnightly and two monthly payrolls covering 1,500 employees. Work within the Payroll team is split between managing the fortnightly and managing the monthly payrolls.
- Implementation of best practice payroll processes and controls to ensure a robust control environment
- Accurate on-boarding of new employees in consultation with the People function
- Preparation and payment of employee salaries, incentives, reimbursements and termination payments, and the calculation of relevant deductions
- Preparation of termination calculations in consultation with People function
- The preparation of all State and Federal tax obligations including PAYG tax, Payroll Tax, Superannuation Guarantee contributions
- Management of novated leases and support the delivery of the FBT returns
- Provision of assistance to employees and team leaders regarding employee awards, legislation changes and changes in policies
- Payroll service point of contact for employees ensuring resolution of payroll enquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Attend education sessions on payroll legislation updates
- Management of filing and archiving of payroll information
- Support the Fund’s merger activities where these involve the onboarding of cohorts of employees
- Implement process improvements within payroll to ensure our operating model is fit-for-purpose and in line with best practice
- Provide insight and input on strategic options to best deliver payroll services to the business to ensure a seamless employee experience from “hire-to-retire”, noting impacts of future legislative requirements and employment awards to achieve the optimal outcomes for the organisational and for employees.
**ABOUT YOU**:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Payroll, and experience in a large payroll function
- Expert in payroll compliance, general payroll practices, procedures, operations and legislation
- Comprehensive knowledge of Modern Awards and other state and industry legislation
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, deal with complexity and work through ambiguity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of the broader team
- Strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to work seamlessly across functions (primarily the People and Finance functions)
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport
- Experience in leading People (or aptitude to learn), including goal setting, performance management and day to day management of team members
- Strong service ethic to the business in resolving issues and provide leadership for the organisation with regards to all payroll related items
- Strong focus on personal and team development
- Able to work through complexity and ambiguity
- Strong influencing skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams, building trust and rapport
