**About the role**:
An exciting opportunity has become available for a State Safety Manager within our Coles Safety team managing a team of safety professionals across Victoria and Tasmania. This role will be responsible for owning and driving the State Safety Plan delivering continuous improvement in safety performance across People and Food Safety. The role also is also responsible for managing injury management whilst working within the National Safety Plan and Safety framework.

You’ll also:

- Drive safety improvement and risk reduction across the State by reviewing and analysing data to provide insight and actions and implementing programs to address trends and risks.
- Partner with State General Manger and Head of Operations to create and foster a safety culture where safety is not solely complying with legislative requirements but delivers value in driving the right behaviours and outcomes across Supermarkets.
- Work closely and build effective relationships with key stakeholders to minimise risk and manage expectations.
- Lead and/or participate in key investigations into safety incidents through to closure in order to build continuous improvement into the SafetyCARE System.
- Embed in Coles a way of thinking about, learning from and solving problems in food and people safety through a combined technical and operational lens which leads to more engaged and efficiently run safe stores
- Role model leadership behaviour that demonstrates to team how to be accountable for results and effectively resolve issues and drive forward to achieve outcomes
- Build strong relationship with Coles Team Cover and ColesGroup Insurance, gaining an understanding of State trends to frame and deliver performance improvements

**About you and your skills**:

- Sound knowledge, skill and experience in Occupational Health and Safety, Environment and Risk Management.
- Proven capability in leading a diverse and multi-disciplinary team
- Clear demonstration of ability to incorporate safety requirements while considering commercially viable and practical solutions.
- Proven record of achieving team results and leading change within a fast-paced environment (retail a preference)
- Experience working in self-insurance or AS4801/ISO45001 accredited safety management system.
- Extensive experience in dealing with regulators and unions
- Degree/post graduate qualification in health and safety or related discipline and/or at least 10+ years of experience providing practical guidance to businesses on safety implementation
