About the Business Unit
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is responsible for providing in-house legal services across the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) and to the Attorney-General, as First Law Officer.
The Public Law and Litigation team within OGC leads the delivery of legal services on constitutional, administrative and public law issues, and litigation faced by DJCS and Ministers, including managing the conduct and coordination of high-profile disputes and inquiries on behalf of the State.
About the Role
**Some of your duties may include**:
- Provide solutions based legal and policy advice, both written and oral, on issues relevant to government, ministers, and the department, both individually and as part of a team of solicitors.
- Manage, with supervision, multiple complex and sensitive matters (both litigation and advisory) for various clients.
- Undertake legal research and analysis on complex legal matters with outstanding statutory interpretation skills.
- Prepare legal documentation and draft complex reports, briefs and Ministerial and other correspondence as required.
About You
- Technical legal skills with the ability to analyse complex operational, policy and legal issues, interpret legislation and develop accurate legal solutions, proactively seeking supervision where required.
- Experience providing legal advice in relation to public or administrative law matters, or in civil or criminal litigation is preferred.
- Experience in, or knowledge of, Victorian Government and Cabinet processes.
**Qualification/Requirements**:
- Admitted, or eligible to be admitted, to practice as a legal practitioner in Victoria.

Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.
At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).
**Acceptable evidence includes**:
- COVID-19 digital certificate or ATAGI exemption certificate (available via your myGov account)
- Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)
Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
