An exciting opportunity exists for a talented and highly motivated individual to join the Office of the General Counsel as Legal Adviser in the Public Law Team at the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
The Office of the General Counsel navigates legal and policy challenges with technically outstanding legal advice and practical, evidence-based solutions to the Premier, other Ministers supported by DPC (including the Minister for Government Services), the Secretary, DPC and other DPC branches. We provide high level legal expertise from the centre of Government.
The Legal Adviser in the Public Law Team will deliver sensitive legal advice to the Premier and other DPC Ministers on key civil and criminal law and justice issues.
We are seeking an experienced, hard-working legal adviser with strong technical, legal and conceptual skills, to join a dedicated team of high performing lawyers in the Public Law Team.
You must hold a Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor or equivalent legal qualification conferred by a university in a common law jurisdiction and be admitted to practice as an Australian lawyer and eligible to hold a Victoria practising certificate.
About you
- Previous experience providing technically excellent and risk-based legal advice, particularly in relation to public law issues.
- Sound analytical, conceptional and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide legal advice clearly and concisely.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to develop strong, productive partnerships and engage key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and to provide legal and strategic advice within time sensitive deadlines.

Other relevant information

To be able to meet the COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination requirements and for the department to meet its obligations under the OH&S Act, the department will request employees provide their vaccination information (including 3rd dose / booster) or evidence of an exemption throughout the recruitment process. Inability to provide this may impact your subsequent employment to the department.
