**Analyst, Data Science - Investment Leverage & Portfolio Management.**
**YOUR ROLE**
IAG has a dedicated AU$150 million corporate venture capital fund - IAG Firemark Ventures (IAGFV) - whose purpose is to bring the outside world into IAG, by investing and partnering with startups to transform how we deliver insurance. Ultimately, the startup investments help IAG to accelerate our strategy or future proof our business.
Through minority investments, IAG gains access to emerging technology, unique sources of data and disruptive business models. Then by connecting the startup with the corporate, trials are run and if successful, lead to commercial agreements between IAG and the startup company.
The purpose of your role as Analyst, Data Science, IAG Firemark Ventures, is to work as a key team player and member of our Ventures team.
**You will**:
- Be actively involved in the identification & research into emerging technologies and their competitive landscape.
- Support the Technical Due Diligence within the Investment process - as required with the Manager of Investments and Technical Specialist - to finalise the financial & strategic investment with the IAGFV Investment Committee, and the onboarding of the startup into the IAGFV portfolio.
- Work with the Manager, Portfolio Management and the Technical Specialist - to develop and manage a Program of Work between IAG and a selected startup, by embedding into the business, through experimentation, agreed opportunities between our startup investments and internal IAG functions. The aim being to create mutual commercial value & partnerships between IAG and the startup.
- As the Data Scientist, be responsible for key components of the Data Analytics & Data Science Delivery & Technical Relationship between IAG & the startup - including managing the collaboration, the data components of experiment design, and the data analytics and data science execution components of the trials.
**ABOUT YOU**
- Strong project delivery skills, including ability to take agreed strategies and develop into delivery plans, manage multiple streams of work, engage & build relationships with multiple internal & external stakeholders required for initiative delivery.
- Able to understand the global innovation & emerging technology landscape and have an innate and insatiable intellectual curiosity about business, technology, and business models - and how they can disrupt the traditional insurance value chain.
- Must be independent and self-directed but able to work with, collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Tertiary qualifications within a relevant business / technology discipline
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in Data Analytics and/or Data Science - with proven performance working with complex data sets to identify insights, trends, problems, and opportunities - that have translated into driving value uplift inside an organisation.
- 1-3 years innovation, startup and VC industry experience - across corporate innovation, investment execution; and strategy development
- Strong communication skills, including ability to communicate clearly strategic rational and influence across all levels
- Ability to translate deep technical concepts into simple and easily understood business terms
- Ability to be assertive in a meeting; to disagree pleasantly; know when to interrupt and when not to; understand the flow of discussion and how to change people’s minds; to attract mentors; understand situations; to discern what can change and what can’t.
