Visual Arts Officer

**Part Time, permanent role - 0.6 EFT (based on 35 hours per week)**:

This is an exciting new role responsible for the delivery of the annual Counihan Gallery program located in Brunswick, including managing the Expression of Interest process for the program, co-ordinating guest curators and artists, assisting artists with realising the shows through installation plan and implementation, audience engagement and part time gallery reception duties

**About the role**:
The Visual Arts Officer is an exciting new opportunity responsible for the development and delivery of the annual Counihan Gallery program based in Brunswick. Working directly with artists this role manages the expression of interest for the yearly program call outs, co-ordinates guest curators and artists, assists and supports artists with installation and contributes to the growth of the program through targeted audience engagement and marketing campaigns. This role also undertakes part time gallery reception duties to directly engage with the gallery patrons to keep informed of the impact of the program on our audiences. Shared responsibilities in this role include gallery maintenance and acquisition and maintenance for the Merri-Bek Art Collection.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an emerging curator who is passionate about supporting diverse artistic practices through a Council led art gallery creating impactful gallery shows. The role collaborates with the Arts Development Officer on public programming engaging with Merri-Bek’s diverse arts sector and community. We are seeking someone who loves working with artists and can bring their applied experience, understanding and knowledge of administration and customer service skills to realise the gallery’s goals and objectives.

**Skills and experience require to perform the role**:

- Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate diverse and innovative gallery programs.
- Experience in caring for an art collection and working with artists to deliver exhibitions and related programs.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills and demonstrated experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in marketing and promotion in the arts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team with some supervisory skills.
- Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
- Demonstrated understanding of Child safety and wellbeing requirements and how this applies in the gallery setting.
