**The Opportunity**:
The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for Library Assistants within the Parliamentary Library. The Parliamentary Library provides high quality information, analysis and advice to Senators and Members of Parliament in support of their parliamentary and representational roles.

This position sits within the Library Collections and Systems Branch, which develops and maintains the information resources that support the research needs of our researchers, and delivers news content for the current awareness of our parliamentary clients.

Library Assistants aid this work by carrying out a variety of tasks in the Parliamentary Library that may include: maintaining collection material and records, creating digital files from print and online sources, receipting delivery of collection items, and helping to make sure the collection is properly stored and organised.

This recruitment process will be used to fill existing ongoing vacancies, and future ongoing and non-ongoing positions as they arise throughout the next 18 months.

**Who we are looking for**:

- Work in an online environment to create and maintain library collection items and records, through tasks that may include digitisation, receipting, reconciliation and basic description;
- Follow directions from supervisors, and where needed, make suggestions for workflow improvements;
- Work flexibly to meet work objectives and standards;
- Complete tasks accurately, and in a timely way, to agreed priorities;
- Build and keep positive relationships with team members; and
- Operate manual storage units and handle collection material weighing up to 6kg.

**Job Specific Requirements**:

- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Service Level 2 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Create or update library records;

2. Assist with maintaining the Library’s physical collection, including shelving, updating volumes, and disposals;

3. Create or process digital collection items from print and online sources;

4. Follow up with suppliers and clients for the successful delivery of Library products and services;

5. Move collection material within and between the Library’s locations;

6. Contribute to corporate activities as required.
