**About the Role**

As the Government Relations Manager at Uniting, you will play a pivotal role in developing and executing strategies that strengthen our relationships with government stakeholders and advance our advocacy campaigns. You will act as a key liaison between Uniting and government entities, ensuring effective communication and alignment with organisational goals.

**Key Responsibilities**

Stakeholder and Government Engagement: Develop and nurture strong relationships with government officials and other stakeholders. Act as a primary contact point between Uniting and government entities, ensuring clear communication and shared objectives.

**Policy Analysis and Advocacy**:

- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments across local, state, territory, and Commonwealth levels, collaborating with business units to assess impacts.
- Develop and support strategies to advocate for policies aligned with Uniting’s mission and campaigns.
- Provide advice on regulatory implications and advocate for favourable outcomes.
- Prepare briefing materials for internal stakeholders as required.

**Legislative Affairs**:

- Track legislative processes, parliamentary committees, and government inquiries relevant to Uniting.
- Engage in efforts to influence legislation positively.
- Collaborate with Uniting stakeholders and the broader Uniting Church to communicate and advocate effectively.

**Government Liaison**:

- Represent Uniting in meetings with government officials.
- Build and maintain relationships with decision-makers to enhance Uniting’s reputation and influence.
- Assist with managing events and site visits.

**Campaign Management**:

- Implement deliverables as outlined in campaign strategies.
- Analyse and report on government relations outcomes to evaluate the effectiveness of activities.
- Contribute to Government Relations activity reports.

**Collaboration**:

- Work with internal and external stakeholders to achieve campaign and strategic objectives.
- Stay informed about industry trends, legislative changes, and best practices in government relations.
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance expertise.
- Uphold Uniting’s Government Relations policy and contribute to other initiatives as required.
- Manage correspondence and follow-ups with government stakeholders.

**Qualifications and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in government relations or working with government in a policy or regulatory capacity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and project management abilities, including the capacity to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Experience engaging and influencing a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to represent an organisation positively at the highest levels.
- Understanding of policy, media, and government-related campaign coordination.
- Competence in using digital tools for government relations and advocacy.
- Ability to interpret and present complex research and policy to general audiences.
- Willingness to travel domestically and work irregular hours when required.
- Passion and understanding of social justice issues.

**Desirable**:
Familiarity with the ethos and structures of the Uniting Church.
