Shape NSW energy policy at the frontline of Australia's transition to net zero.
Work with government and industry leaders in a fast-paced, high-profile sector.
Join a team that's All Kinds of Useful
At Origin, being useful is more than a tagline - it’s how we approach work every day. As a collective, we’re a team that thrives on finding better ways, working together, and owning our impact. From powering homes to delivering award-winning internet and helping to lead Australia’s energy transition. If you’re driven by purpose and excited to be part of something bigger, we’d love to have you on the journey.
About the role
A new opportunity to join a fast-paced, high-profile sector where government policy, politics and business intersect every day. As Origin’s Government Relations Manager, you’ll play a central role in shaping how Origin engages with the NSW Government, Parliament and key stakeholders. From advising the business on emerging political and policy developments, to supporting projects and helping to shape our advocacy positions, you’ll have the chance to influence outcomes that matter for Origin, our customers and Australia’s energy future.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building and managing strong relationships with the NSW Government, the opposition, relevant departments and industry associations.
- Advising the business on political and policy issues and developing strategies to position Origin effectively.
- Supporting projects and initiatives that depend on government engagement and approval.
- Preparing advice, briefing notes and advocacy materials for senior leaders.
- Helping to mediate between business goals and government priorities.
What will you bring?
You don’t need an energy background – experience in sectors like banking, health, government or industry associations will be valuable. Key considerations are:
- A genuine interest in NSW politics, government and public policy.
- The ability to read a room, understand people’s motivations and navigate political dynamics.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to distil complex issues into clear positions.
- Experience working with or influencing government stakeholders.
- Comprehensive understanding of government decision-making and political processes.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication, advocacy, and experience preparing reports, submissions, and delivering presentations.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in complex, high-pressure environments, managing significant responsibilities and meeting tight deadlines.
So why join us?
- 20 weeks of paid leave for primary carers with flexible return options.
- Thrive in a culture of personal and professional growth.
- Enjoy a central CBD location with access to parking and public transport.
- Purchase up to four additional weeks of leave annually.
- Engage in opportunities through the Origin Foundation to support your community.
- Powering your career with unbeatable perks - Get discounted electricity, gas, and internet as an Origin employee.
- Explore unique and cost-effective employee EV Car subscriptions.
