Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.

This position is located at the Community Forensic Mental Health Service (CFMHS) in Clifton Hill, 15 minutes from Melbourne’s city centre. CFMHS is a specialist state-wide agency that works with individuals who have a serious mental health illness and have offended or are at risk of offending.

**About the Role**:
The Assistant Manager and Regional Coordinator (MHARS) forms part of the MHARS management and coordination team along with the Manager (MHARS). The position provides leadership for Forensicare’s MHARS clinicians and plays a critical role in supporting the work of regional MHARS clinicians employed through Area Mental Health Services (AMHS).

**Duties**:
**Management and Supervision**
- Directly manages, supports, and supervises a selection of Forensicare metropolitan MHARS clinicians.
- Contributes to leadership of regular MHARS meetings.
- Deputises for the Manager MHARS when the manager is on leave.
- Monitors and evaluates the effective service delivery of the MHARS.
- Contributes to overseeing data collection and reporting in the program.
- Develops and implements strategies and systems which promote flexibility and timely responses to changing priorities within MHARS.
- Assists with development of relevant policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Undertakes regular site visits to selected metropolitan locations.
- Effectively disseminates information on MHARS to staff, other sections of the organisation and external agencies.
- Demonstrates leadership in clinical and policy issues by participating in accreditation and risk management processes.
- Assists with the development and provision of professional development for the clinicians.

**Regional Coordination**
- Ensure a consistent and standardised approach to MHARS positions in AMHS.
- Provides expert secondary consultation to support the MHARS Clinicians in AMHS.
- Undertakes regular site visits across regional court locations and coordinates meetings involving local stakeholders.
- Liaises with the AMHS managers and clinicians to assist effective utilisation of the MHARS positions.
- Works closely with the Manager MHARS in the delivery of regular state-wide network forums/meetings.
- Participates in collecting program data and stakeholder feedback and preparing reports for Department of Health.
- Ensures regional MHARS staff are included in MHARS orientation, training, supervision, and professional development programs.

**About You**:

- Demonstrated commitment to incorporating consumer perspectives and the recovery approach into service delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a multi-disciplinary team and lead complex programs effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrated experience working at a senior level in forensic mental health, including five years’ post registration and detailed knowledge of forensic mental health risk assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to independently undertake comprehensive mental health assessments, including writing concise reports with clear treatment recommendations.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to function as an independent mental health practitioner.
- An understanding of the legal system, court protocols and associated processes.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering professional education sessions.
- Ability to liaise and effectively communicate with a wide range of key stakeholders including the ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with community mental health services, clients, carers, family members, members of the general community, members of the legal profession and other professionals.
- Well-developed computer skills and capability to utilise electronic record systems.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and service context including the Mental Health Act 2014, Sentencing Act 1991, Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997 and the Criminal Justice System.
- Qualified as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, or Psychologist.
- A current Victorian driver’s licence.
