Support Worker

Second Home exists to help people with a disability enjoy a happy and healthy holiday. Guests are encouraged to take part in tailoring their holiday experience and participate in holiday experiences within local communities.

The Support Worker role exists to ensure the support delivery to enable people with disabilities enjoy happy and healthy holidays.

Key Accountability Areas:
Personal Hygiene Assistance
- Washing hands after going to the toilet
- Bathing / showering
- Brushing teeth
- Getting dressed

Mobility Support

Second Home support workers assist guests to participate in everyday activities. This may include, but is not limited to:

- Assisting guests to use mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, walking sticks, walking frames, etc
- Assisting guests with mobility aids such as splints, braces, shower chairs, etc
- Assisting guests to navigate ramps, stairs, etc
- Transportation

Shopping Tasks

Second Home support workers assist guests perform shopping tasks as required. This may include:

- Escorted Shopping Trips - escorting guests on local trips to supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, etc
- Unescorted Shopping Trips - performing shopping tasks on behalf of guests

Housekeeping Tasks

Housekeeping refers to the tasks involved in running of the house such as cleaning, cooking and home maintenance. Housekeeping is essential to maintaining a safe home environment for both our guests and our staff. Housekeeping tasks may include, but are not limited to:

- Meal preparation, cooking and tidying up
- Cleaning rooms
- Vacuuming, mopping and sweeping
- Making beds / replacing bedding
- Notifying the house manager of any required maintenance
- Take responsibility for the Occupational Health and Safety of yourself, other Team Members, contractors and visitors

Coordination of social activities

During their stay, guests choose from a range of in-house and community based activities. Second Home support workers assist guests to participate in their chosen activities. More information regarding the In-house and Community Based activities available at the house is available later in this document.

Workplace Safety and health
- Timely reporting of any Occupational Health and Safety Incidents
- Comply so far as reasonably practicable with Second Home WHS policies / procedures as well as reasonable instructions from Second Home Management

Qualifications / Experience:

- A Certificate level in Disability, Aged Care, Child Care or an equivalent qualification or willingness to obtain

Special Requirements:

- Second Home may require you to carry out other duties as directed that are commensurate with the skills and competencies of the classification level
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- National Police Clearance Certificate or a National Police Clearance Certificate (not older than 3 months)
- NDIS Screen check
- Covid 19 Vaccination / Booster Shot / Flu Vaccine
- Right to work check
- Working with Children Check
- CPR and 1st Aid certificate (not older than 12 months)

Shifting Schedule - must be flexible and willing to travel to go to our different respite houses located in the southeast of Melbourne and Mornington Peninsula Area. We offer a minimum of 4 hours and a maximum of 12 hours per day, including sleepovers (with a fixed rate).
