**About the position**

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Trainee Finance Officer will be trained to support the effective and efficient delivery of finance operations at Muswellbrook Shire Council. The role will assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, treasury, rates, water billing and other financial transactions, contributing to timely and accurate processing and reporting. The role will be assigned to specific areas in Finance on a rotation basis.

The Trainee Finance Officer position is full-time employment for two (2) years and the proposed study will be Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping through TAFE NSW - Digital.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist in the accurate processing and reconciliation of accounts payable and receivable transactions including preparing the monthly GST report.
- Support the rates and water billing processing end to end and online certificates.
- Assist in weekly data entry of payroll processing including superannuation.
- Assist with bank, and credit card reconciliations.
- Contribute to data entry and support internal reporting for end-of-month and end-of-year processes.
- Perform administrative support functions for the Finance Team.

**About you**
- Higher School Certificate or equivalent
- Current Drivers Licence (minimum NSW Provisional P1 Licence or equivalent)
- Eligibility to enrol in FNS40222 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping
- Interest in finance and accounting within a local government context
- Digital literacy to access information, communicate and complete activities using a computer
- An analytical approach to problem-solving; and strong Maths and English skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or within a team environment.
