**Why Your Role Matters**:
This Post-Doctoral Fellow (Level B, part-time 0.6FTE) position links to a dynamic and energetic research program based in the School of Social Sciences, UNSW Sydney. Under the leadership of Chief Investigator Professor Emma Kirby, the research program undertakes qualitative research within the field of sociology. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will primarily work with academic investigators on a project funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant “Dying in delay”, that aims to understand the implications of pandemic delays for the end of life. The Discovery project aims to understand the sociocultural factors that shape experiences of illness and care amid delay, to generate new knowledge on needs at the end of life.

A Senior Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow (Level B) is expected to carry out team-based and independent research, and to carry out activities to develop their research expertise relevant to their particular field of research.

The role of Senior Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow reports to the Project Lead and has no direct reports.

**Responsibilities Summary**:

- Coordinate the overall administration and delivery of project tasks.
- Contribute independently and as a team member to undertake activities to deliver the project and related research, ensuring project milestones are met.
- Develop research outcomes through appropriate channels, including academic and non-academic publications, presenting at conferences, meetings and workshops are relevant to the project.
- Create scholarly impact in the discipline which is recognised by peers in the advancement of disciplinary knowledge.
- Mentor and guide students and colleagues and develop the next generation of academics through involvement in supervision of HDRs, as appropriate.

**Skills and Experience Summary**:

- A PhD in the social sciences (preferably sociology, anthropology, social work) or a discipline closely related, and relevant research experience.
- Experience working on complex and/or sensitive research projects and delivering outputs in a timely manner.
- Experience working with qualitative research methods and approaches to data collection and fieldwork. (including interview schedules, participant recruitment, informed consent, in-depth interviews, data management).
- Experience analysing interview data using appropriate methods, such as thematic analysis or other techniques.
- Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for emerging research leadership.
- A track record of significant involvement with the end-of-life care sector.
- High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of staff.
- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
