Key Roles and Responsibilities

The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment is responsible for sustainably managing the Northern Territory's natural assets. The department leads a strategic land resource assessment program that supports land use planning, economic development, improved land management, and conservation initiatives.

As Principal Compliance and Regulation Officer, you will manage the compliance and enforcement functions of the Development Coordination Branch regarding land clearing on unzoned land under the Planning Act 1999 across the Territory. You will ensure a robust and credible compliance program is maintained.

Your key duties include:

  • Developing and implementing environmental compliance programs
  • Providing briefings and supporting documentation on native vegetation management
  • Exercising responsibilities as an Authorised Officer under the Planning Act 1999 regarding native vegetation management
  • Conducting site inspections to assess compliance

To be successful, you require high-level experience in administering legislation and providing advice on environmental matters, conducting regulatory investigations, and project management skills, including planning, prioritising, and meeting deadlines.

A degree in natural resource management, environmental science, or related qualification, and Certificate IV in Government Investigations or similar, would be highly valued.
