Melbourne, Victoria, Australia beBeeClimate Full time $125,428 - $148,896

Severe weather events are a regular occurrence in Australia, and their frequency and severity are projected to increase. This is likely to result in significant economic impact, vulnerability, and potential magnitude of harm. To address this, the Bureau of Meteorology and the Commonwealth are undertaking steps to deliver improved Climate Risk services, aiming to enhance Australia's resilience to extreme weather and reduce the cost of natural disasters.

The Environmental Prediction Services (EPS) Program has been established to provide access to scientific expertise, services, and modelling across four predictive service teams: Marine and Antarctic, Water, Climate, and Severe Weather.

EPS Climate is an integrated team responsible for delivering operational and specialist climate and hydro-climate services for Australia and the southwest Pacific. The objectives of EPS Climate include supporting strategic and tactical decisions across government and industry to improve resilience to future climate and ensuring the Bureau delivers on commitments under the Water Act 2007.

To achieve this, the team will be responsible for provision of multi-week and seasonal forecasts, routine climate and hydrological monitoring, and situational awareness reports. Additionally, they will analyze past, present, and future climate data sets.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate a strong interest in being part of the evolving landscape for weather, ocean, and climate services. You must have post graduate qualifications in climatology, hydrology, or meteorology and experience in working with climate risk, climate observations, and future projections. Experience in high-impact weather and hazards is advantageous.
