Position Overview: Director of Pastoral Care

  • Employment Type: Full Time Permanent
  • Role Summary: We are seeking a committed and experienced individual to take on the role of Director of Pastoral Care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive protective behaviours curriculum.
  • Oversee and manage significant behavioural investigations and facilitate the necessary processes.
  • Enhance behaviour management strategies and maintain effective communication with parents and staff.
  • Provide leadership to the Student Services Team, including health professionals and spiritual leaders.
  • Supervise student wellbeing areas, including spaces designated for suspension and timeout.
  • Address and follow up with students exhibiting low attendance rates.
  • Organize community engagement events focused on pastoral care initiatives.
  • Initiate and lead professional development opportunities for staff regarding effective classroom management and wellbeing practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in education, pastoral care, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in leading pastoral care or student wellbeing initiatives within a secondary school setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex behavioural issues and investigations.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of contemporary pastoral care and wellbeing strategies.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience in organizing parent and community engagement events.
  • Awareness of the unique needs of students across various year levels, particularly in behaviour management.
  • Previous experience in an educational environment that aligns with the values and ethos of our institution.

Essential Attributes:

  • A personal commitment to faith and the principles of the Christian community.
  • Active participation in a Church or Christian community, exemplifying Christian values and practices.
  • Acceptance of the school's Statement of Faith.
  • Ability to foster cooperative and supportive relationships with the board, principal, staff, students, and parents.
  • Commitment to personal best practices.
  • Ensure that decision-making is fact-based, impartial, and fair.
  • Model appropriate communication channels.
  • Act in the best interest of the school and its ethos.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures established by the institution.
  • Possess a First Aid certificate.
  • Hold a Working with Children Card.
