Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is seeking a skilled professional to join their team as an Operational Forecaster.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing operational forecasting models for electricity demand, rooftop PV, grid-scale solar farms, and wind farms. This will involve developing forecast models by updating inputs, parameters, and variables to reflect system changes and improve performance.

Additionally, the Operational Forecaster will work closely with AEMO's weather providers and control rooms to translate weather risks into system impacts. They will ensure operators have the information they need to make informed decisions.

The role requires strong analytical skills, including experience with data analysis and statistical modeling techniques. The successful candidate will also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to prepare high-quality reports and presentations to communicate technical information to a broad range of stakeholders.

About You
  • Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or a related statistical discipline are essential.
  • Experience in the energy sector or similar industry, preferably in an operations, forecasting, or analytical role, is highly desirable.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, including experience preparing high-quality reports and presentations, are required.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and statistical modeling techniques, including PowerBI, Databricks, SQL, and Excel, is necessary.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and across multiple projects is essential.
