Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia SLR Consulting Full time
About SLR Consulting

SLR Consulting is a rapidly growing privately-owned global business, with a strong reputation for providing high-quality Environmental and Advisory Services. We have over 3,000 staff with offices throughout the APAC, Europe, North, Central and South America and Africa regions. In APAC, we have over 800 employees (and counting) across 23 offices.

There is a fantastic opportunity for a highly experienced Planner with 15+ years of experience to join our APAC Planning team in Sydney or Newcastle. Our team is made up of a group of skilled and motivated Planners with an enthusiastic approach to life and work. We currently service a pipeline of projects within the built environment, energy, and infrastructure sectors. Our Planning team is well-established in the Newcastle region, but with modern waterside offices in the Sub-base platypus business park in North Sydney (home to over 100 SLR staff across 14 other disciplines), we are interested in applications from both Newcastle & Sydney.

This role will require a planning expert, with a penchant for Business development as well as technical excellence. We are looking for a market-facing leader to help foster new relationships, nurture existing ones, and develop staff to ensure our potential is reached. As a Technical Director, and therefore part of the planning leadership team, we are looking for someone to help influence the direction of our growing team. We work in a flexible office environment and pride ourselves on our relaxed and positive culture, regular social events, and positive client feedback.

  • Keep abreast of legislative and policy changes within the planning realm.
  • Manage several projects at any one time without direct supervision.
  • Mentor and lead junior staff to assist the overall growth of the team.
  • Liaise with clients, councils, consultants, and other government agencies.
  • Experience working across multi-disciplinary projects within a consulting environment.
Requirements
  • 15+ years' hands-on experience with tertiary qualifications in town planning or equivalent.
  • Post-graduate qualifications are advantageous.
  • Have previously undertaken a senior/leadership role within a consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated technical autonomy working across multiple sectors, specifically town planning, property, and development.
  • Highly proficient in business, client, and project development.
  • Be driven to pass on your knowledge by mentoring junior staff.
  • A thorough understanding of project budgets and deliverables while maintaining excellent client service that we are known for.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Benefits
  • Hybrid work model (in-office & from home) - you choose where you work best.
  • Extra paid purchased leave up to 10 days so you can re-energize, help others, support family, or focus on your own professional development.

  • Learning and development which includes a mapped career progression path, study assistance, and up to 3 professional memberships subsidized by SLR.
  • Employee Assistance Program to support your physical, mental, and social wellbeing.
  • Global and regional mobility and recruitment referral bonus for both region and global candidates.
