Lead Software Developer

A leading role in software development is available at a pioneering tech firm focused on innovative visualisation and training solutions for the defence and aerospace sectors.

We seek a seasoned full-stack developer with expertise in back-end development and DevOps to collaborate on a high-profile space-related project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain clean, high-performance code that is easy to scale and update.
  • Own the architecture of sub-systems or projects, applying modern design patterns and best-practice system design.
  • Translate business and client requirements into robust technical solutions and clear outcomes.
  • Champion rigorous testing practices to ensure reliability and long-term maintainability.
  • Oversee end-to-end system and architecture design, with a strong focus on back-end engineering (front-end skills are a bonus).
  • Produce clear, comprehensive technical documentation and system diagrams to support onboarding, knowledge sharing, and long-term maintainability.
  • Guide and mentor junior and mid-level developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Drive DevOps best practices, including containerisation and cloud-native deployment.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and integrate them where they add value.
  • Communicate complex technical ideas in plain language to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Thrive in Agile/Scrum teams, delivering incrementally in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience, demonstrating progressive technical responsibility.
  • Extensive expertise with both relational and non-relational databases, including modelling, optimisation, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on full-stack development background, comfortable moving between back-end, front-end, and DevOps tasks.
  • Documented history of leading projects, with examples that showcase successful delivery, team guidance, and measurable outcomes.
  • Direct client-facing experience, translating business needs into technical solutions and managing expectations.
  • Knowledge of physics engines or real-time simulation, applying complex mathematical models to practical applications.
  • Exposure to space or defence domains, understanding sector-specific requirements, standards, and constraints.
  • Experience integrating software with hardware systems, ensuring seamless communication between code and physical devices.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work.
