Senior Legal Counsel

We are seeking a commercially minded and technically skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our team.

The successful candidate will provide transactional and regulatory legal advice across a diverse range of banking and finance activities to support multiple brands and business units.

This role involves a broad range of activities including, but not limited to:

  • Structuring and settling banking and finance transactions.
  • Providing advice on legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Legal support for regulatory projects.
  • Commercial, quality and timely legal advice.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical legal skills and a practical understanding of banking and finance transactions. They will also have experience advising on SME business structures and foundational knowledge of property, corporate and trust law.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders across distribution, product, credit, risk and compliance, as well as external law firms, regulators, and industry bodies.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified legal practitioner in Australia to develop their skills and expertise in a dynamic banking environment.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Developing and implementing legal strategies to support business objectives.
  • Providing advice on legal and regulatory matters to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Representing the company in legal proceedings and negotiations.
  • Managing legal risks and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

The successful candidate will be a qualified legal practitioner with a strong track record of providing high-quality legal advice and support.

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong academic record and a degree in law.
  • Admission to practice as a solicitor in Australia.
  • Experience working in a legal or financial services environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

You will also need to be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
