Midwifery Career Opportunities

NT Health is seeking experienced midwives to provide birthing services in various locations across the Northern Territory.

The successful applicants will work in a dynamic and challenging environment, delivering antenatal, postnatal, and intrapartum care to clients from diverse backgrounds.

  • As a midwife with NT Health, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that provides comprehensive care to clients and families.
  • You will work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high-quality patient care, ensuring positive clinical outcomes.
  • Our models of care include Midwifery Group Practice, Team Midwifery, Remote Area Maternity care, General Practitioner Obstetrician care, Shared care, Public hospital maternity care, and Public hospital high risk maternity care.

To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of 12 months' experience in a relevant area of clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing/midwifery care for allocated clients.
  2. Work within the registered nurse/midwife scope of practice and adhere to relevant legislation, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
  3. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver effective healthcare services.
  4. Maintain a physically, culturally, and psychosocially safe environment for healthcare consumers and staff.
  5. Demonstrate NTH values - safe; responsive; kind – in all decision making and interactions.
  6. Foster a positive workplace culture through appropriate behavior.
  7. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  8. Ability to work shift work and be redeployed to other clinical areas as needed.
Selection Criteria
  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of client care coordination resulting in positive clinical outcomes.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to contribute effectively within the multidisciplinary team.
  4. Understanding of social and cultural issues influencing health care delivery.
  5. Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement principles in healthcare settings.
