The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and passionate Endorsed Midwife to manage and provide care for MiD's postnatal care portfolio. This role focuses exclusively on postnatal care, supporting families either at home or in local postnatal retreat settings following birth. You will work closely with MiD's Director, the NT Health's' Project Manager, (NT Health Private Maternity Services) as well as with the Team Leaders, Obstetricians and RDH staff to provide care for families in their early postpartum journey. You will work your full scope of practice in this specialised area to provide comprehensive and safe clinical care, breastfeeding and lactation support, and make skilled assessments of both mother and baby.

About the Role As a Postnatal Care Midwife, you will:

  • Provide high-quality postnatal care to MiD caseload clients when their primary midwife is unavailable.
  • Care for privately admitted women, both at home and in local postnatal retreat settings.
  • Conduct skilled maternal and neonatal assessments, recognising deviations from normal postpartum recovery and escalating as required.
  • Provide breastfeeding and lactation support (IBCLC qualification desirable but not essential).
  • Work closely with local GPs, private obstetricians, and hospital staff to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Report directly to the NT Project Manager (Private Maternity Service) and Director of Midwives in Darwin, liaising with Team Leaders and Ward Managers at Royal Darwin Hospital where relevant.

  • Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Registration Standards & Codes of Conduct
  • Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Quality & Safety Guidelines for Privately Practicing Midwives
  • Australian College of Midwives Guidelines for Consultation and Referral
  • All relevant NT Health guidelines and policies (when applicable)

Professional Requirements

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Midwife with Endorsement for Scheduled Medicines.
  • Experience in postnatal care and breastfeeding/lactation support.
  • Ability to provide family-inclusive care and recognise deviations from normal postpartum recovery.
  • Professional indemnity insurance (covered by MiD).
  • Current National Police Check and Working With Children Check (WWC).
  • Current driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

Desired Requirements

  • IBCLC qualification desirable (or extensive experience and knowledge in breastfeeding/lactation support).
  • Experience in community-based postnatal care.
  • Experience in hospital postnatal wards or birth centres.
  • Competency in maternal and neonatal assessment and emergency recognition.
  • Strong commitment to professional development and upskilling.
