About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Yellow Crazy Ant Field Coordinator to manage all aspects of the Yellow Crazy Ant Eradication Program.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the team in the field, managing health and safety aspects, communicating with project partners and Abriculture managers, maintaining vehicles and equipment, preparing work schedules, and overseeing the training of new recruits.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement strategic business plans to achieve organizational goals
- Identify opportunities for innovation and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of operations
- Ensure the completion and submission of timesheets, invoices, and other financial documents
- Develop and manage budgets for delegated projects
- Negotiate contracts for ranger services
- Assist in identifying and securing grant funding
- Manage the insurance and registration of vehicles, trailers, boats, and other equipment
- Procure equipment and resources for ranger projects
- Provide high-quality reporting, communication, and advice to internal and external stakeholders
- Network and develop relationships with partners and stakeholders
- Establish a reputation for reliability and trust across the spectrum of stakeholders
- Understand, interpret, administer, and comply with relevant legislation and policies applicable to the functions within an Indigenous Ranger unit
- Know the organization's cultural heritage and keeping place procedures
- Comply with all safe work procedures relating to machinery and tools, and labelling and storage of hazardous substances
- Manage staff and volunteers to minimize/eliminate risk
- Ensure the completion of risk assessments for ranger activities and projects
- Manage the Rangers, ranger projects, and achieve the outcomes in the Management Plan
- Supervise, motivate, develop, and support work teams and individual employees within the unit
- Identify ranger needs and implement solutions, including training and legal certifications
- Attend/participate in job-related conferences and training
- Minimum Certificate III in conservation and land management, or a Bachelor's degree in an equivalent field with additional 3-5 years of practical skills
- Desirable to have a Training and Employment qualification or be willing to obtain one
- Current motor vehicle driver's license
- Experience working on country in a similar position for 3-5 years
- Knowledge, understanding, and respect for the traditions, land, and its inhabitants
- Proven experience leading a team of at least 4 rangers, including mentoring junior staff and improving professional outcomes of Indigenous Rangers
- Proven experience maintaining the WHS requirements
- Proven experience maintaining inventory and maintaining equipment/tools
- Proven experience in grant writing, project management, and budget management
- Proven experience in leading a team of workers to complete tasks in the required time frame
- Experience presenting information to a group of peers, confident in their skills and knowledge
- Media skills would be advantageous
- Proven experience in biosecurity, weed and pest management
- Proven experience in seed collection and propagation
- Proven experience in plant nursery maintenance and management
- Working with a diverse team
- Plenty of outdoor fieldwork
- Use of iPhone, laptop, and company ute
