We are on the hunt for an experienced Senior Credit Specialist to join our SME Lending team.

Reporting to the National Manager, SME Lending, this role sits within the SME Credit Assist function and contributes to the team delivering an industry-leading level of broker support in the SME Lending distribution channel. Working as part of the SME Lending team, this role is an active contributor to delivering on the agreed strategic objectives of Business Lending.

In this role, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day management and preliminary assessment of credit scenario referrals and review of credit deferrals / declines escalations resulting in credit appeals and escalations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage SME Lending application pipeline, ensuring deals meet service levels (SLA) and re-prioritise when needed.
  • Build and maintain broker relationships for smooth SME loan origination.
  • Use credit process knowledge to pre-vet, package, and submit SME lending applications to Credit Operations.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Credit, KYC, brokers, valuers, and solicitors to maintain deal efficiency.
  • Work with internal teams to streamline credit assessment, KYC, pricing, and settlement processes.
  • Support employee engagement and high-performance work culture.
  • Identify and implement process improvements for better broker/customer service.
  • Ensure business meets all risk, compliance, audit, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in retail banking/financial services, ideally in commercial lending.
  • 5+ years of commercial credit experience (nice to have).
  • Extensive analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Proven success in initiating and implementing change; adaptable to changing needs and priorities.
  • Competency with complex business structures and financial statements (nice to have).
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and planning (nice to have).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to inspire others.
  • Ability to negotiate, multitask, and perform under pressure.
