Urban Planning Specialist Role

The Urban Planning Specialist plays a key role in contributing to the development of new planning schemes for city growth and development. This is a significant project that occurs once every ten years, providing a rare opportunity to develop and enhance plan-making skills within a supportive team environment.

The Strategic, Urban and Regional Planning team formulates and delivers urban planning policy, maintaining effective and efficient planning instruments to manage growth and respond to community needs.

You will work on a broad range of deliverables across various policy areas, ensuring varied and interesting days. These may include work on urban design, managing constraints (flooding, bushfire, landslide) and protection of environmental values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Developing comprehensive planning schemes
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation, state government agencies, industry, and community groups
  • Providing high-quality specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders

This role requires a strong understanding of urban planning principles and practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or equivalent
  • Considerable experience as a town planner/urban planner
  • Development assessment or strategic planning experience
  • Technical skills applicable to the role
  • A high level of interpersonal, oral, and written skills as well as effective time management
