Electrical Engineer Job Description

The Electrical Colo Regional Engineer is a vital position within AWS Infrastructure Services. The team designs, plans, delivers, and operates global infrastructure including data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling to ensure reliable access for customers.

This role involves collaboration with diverse teams of software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to maintain safety and security while delivering maximum capacity at optimal costs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review colo vendor designs for new data centers in the region, incorporating AWS products to meet expectations.
  • Act as resident engineer during construction projects; support commissioning and handover.
  • Troubleshoot site/equipment failures, create corrective action documentation, and perform root cause analysis.
  • Provide technical support for data center upgrades to add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
  • Support operating partners to lead and approve design reviews for existing data center upgrades.
  • Interface with teams to promote standards ensuring reliability in services delivered by operating partners.
  • Work on concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate engineering site audits and produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediation.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil/gas facilities).
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail, and high quality standards.
  • Direct experience with design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission-critical facilities, especially data centers.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as resident engineer or hands-on field design consultant.
  • Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
  • Experience owning fast-track design/build projects or multiple significant upgrade projects.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical data center equipment and design.
  • Knowledge of continuous operating redundant electrical and cooling systems and building management systems.
