A data center engineer's work is crucial to the functioning of a company. They oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and other critical infrastructure components. Effective management of these systems ensures high availability, reliability, and performance of the IT services provided to customers.
The Data Center Operations team supports the growth of a business by maintaining physical infrastructure, upholding standards for safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost. This involves ensuring that all necessary protocols are in place for daily operations, addressing potential issues promptly, and providing support as needed.
Data Center Engineering Operations Trainees play a key role in this process by handling engineering operations tasks such as risk management, corrective and preventative maintenance, vendor management, and metric reporting. Their primary responsibility is to maintain the operational readiness of data center assets, with an emphasis on quality and timely delivery.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with contractor and vendor management
- Maintaining performance benchmarks and preparing reports
- Generating Change Management requests and Incident Management tickets
- Contributing to documentation related to business and facility operations
- Supporting rack installations and power provisioning within constraints
- Participating in routine maintenance and emergency services
- Learning about facility design and implementation
- Assisting with asset management and inventory control
- Participating in construction and operational meetings
- Supporting Work Order compliance and reviewing contractual SLAs
- Interfacing with Infra Ops teams for daily operational needs
- Resolving infrastructure engineering or service issues
- Delivering exceptional customer service
Bachelor's degree holders in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant disciplines, or individuals with equivalent technical experience, are preferred candidates for this position. Experience in data center engineering or operations is highly valued.
This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
