Aboriginal Child Protection Specialist

This is a challenging and rewarding role that involves working with vulnerable children and their families to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

The Aboriginal Child Protection Specialist will work sensitively and respectfully with parents, family members, children or young people to develop strong relationships and provide support. The role requires the ability to work collaboratively with other agencies and engage in complex problem solving.

  • Work closely with families to formulate goals that align with their needs, address safety and well-being concerns, and provide appropriate assistance through home visits.
  • Develop and implement safety plans, complete risk assessments, and manage cases and situations including working with high needs and high-risk clients and their families.
  • Be involved in court processes, including the preparation of court documents and attending court hearings.

The ideal candidate will be confident, curious, and resilient with excellent verbal and written communication skills. They will need to build positive working relationships with families and other professionals.

Requirements:
  • A relevant diploma or degree qualification in child protection or a related field is preferred.
  • Applicants without a relevant qualification require at least two years' experience working with vulnerable children, young people, and their families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building trust and rapport with families and other professionals.
  • A valid driver's licence and a paid working with children clearance number are also required.
  • Documented verification of Aboriginality confirming that you are an Aboriginal person of Aboriginal descent and that you identify as being Aboriginal.
