Experienced Gastroenterologist Required

The Calvary Mater Newcastle is seeking a highly skilled and experienced gastroenterologist to join their team. This role will involve providing clinical management and intervention for gastroenterology patients across the facility.

As a gastroenterologist in this role, you will be responsible for performing clinical services for inpatients admitted under the gastroenterology service, participating in bed allocation processes, and managing patient flow according to patient need and hospital requirements.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing specialist consultation within the field of gastroenterology, including provision of outpatient services
  • Providing clinical leadership to junior colleagues by ensuring high standards of patient care that conform to best practice and are evidence-based

Required qualifications and skills for this role include:

  • Primary medical degree registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), with recognised qualifications in gastroenterology and/or other equivalent specialist recognition
  • Demonstrated current gastroenterology (including endoscopy) clinical practice of a high standard, with ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence-based best practice
  • Capacity for clinical leadership, commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in medicine, nursing, and allied health, and willingness to participate in clinical research
  • Understanding of principles of clinical governance to promote quality and safety in healthcare, with experience in and commitment to evidence-based best practice
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and proficiently in periods of high demand/activity
