For current APS employees, this position is available through an s26 transfer.

For those interested in entering the federal government, this role will be offered as a 12-month non-ongoing contract, with a possibility of permanency.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to a highly skilled Director, you will collaborate within a dynamic team to oversee essential asset accounting and reporting functions.

Key responsibilities for the Financial Accountant include:

  1. Executing the Department's external financial reporting and asset accounting duties.
  2. Delivering financial accounting services and guidance on all aspects of financial statements, taxation, asset management, accounting policies, procedures, accounting standards, investment and treasury management, external financial reporting, and month-end processes.
  3. Providing technical accounting advice and support to staff regarding financial policies, processes, systems, and issues.
  4. Maintaining and managing intricate relationships with internal and external clients, stakeholders, and service providers.
  5. Conducting research, analysis, review, and evaluation of accounting issues, and implementing policies, procedures, and processes.
  6. Contributing to responses to ANAO regarding matters raised in relation to financial audit activities.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be a proficient accounting technician with relevant tertiary qualifications; CPA/CA qualifications are preferred.

Demonstrated experience in being proactive, utilizing problem-solving skills, and applying influencing abilities to promptly address accounting issues, particularly in the context of federal government operations, is essential.

Ideally, candidates should have experience within the Federal government or come from consulting or audit firms with engagements related to the Federal government.

The ideal candidate must also exhibit proficiency in managing, mentoring, and evaluating team and individual performance while providing regular feedback to team members.

A solid understanding of and adherence to governance requirements within the financial management framework is crucial for success in this position.

Eligibility Requirement

Australian Citizenship with current AGSVA Baseline clearance or above is required.

Compensation
  1. $113k – $129k + Super or salary match for existing EL1 employees.
  2. s26 transfer or 12-month non-ongoing contract with a view to permanency.
