Job Description:

The primary objective of this role is to effectively communicate the organization's voice through traditional media. This involves managing reactive media enquiries, delivering proactive media content, and collaborating with the Social Media Specialist to ensure stories reach the right audiences.

Key responsibilities include responding to media requests, developing collateral such as media releases and key messages, drafting speeches for the Speakers Bureau, creating and posting social media content, and supporting the Head of Media & External Communications in managing issues and crises.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Media Relations Expertise: Experience in a front-line media role with a track record of generating positive coverage that supports business and advocacy objectives.
  • Advocacy & Political Awareness: Strong understanding of the role of traditional and social media in advocacy, as well as knowledge of political processes, government, and peak bodies.
  • Exceptional Writing Skills: Ability to craft compelling media releases, opinion pieces, communication plans, speeches, and briefing materials, often distilling complex policy or technical information.
  • Relationship Building: Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, pitch stories effectively, and create engaging social media content to complement traditional media.
