We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Aboriginal Court Assessment and Prosecutions Specialist to join our team in Melbourne CBD. This is a full-time, ongoing position that provides a dual specialist function in Community Corrections Service (CCS) provision at the Courts.

Our team works tirelessly to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people within the Criminal Justice System through the provision of correctional supports and services that reduce the risk of reoffending.

About the Position

The Court Assessment and Prosecutions Service (CAPS) Officer position provides high-quality evidence-based advice to the Koori Court division of the Magistrates' and County Courts to assist in the sentencing process. You will work closely with the community to provide support to Aboriginal participants involved in the Melbourne Drug Court, including suitability assessment for Drug and Alcohol Treatment Orders (DATO) and provision of case management support.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake assessments with complex individuals.
  • Understanding of best approaches to support the needs of people who are in contact with the criminal justice systems.
  • Understanding of case management.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of court processes, prosecutions or related areas (desirable).
